Bramley Associates

Established in 1998, Bramley Associates is an ecological consultancy offering a variety of ecological services to private companies, local authorities, government agencies, NGO's and members of the public.

These services range from initial scoping surveys, through Phase 1 Habitat Surveys/PEA, Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain, up to full ecological surveys. We also offer specialist surveys, habitat management advice and where appropriate, mitigation services for a range of species including reptiles, bats, great crested newts, badgers, water voles, seals and marine/freshwater algae and invertebrates.

Ecological services

Our surveyors are licenced to undertake work with a number of highly protected species including: great crested newt, otter, water vole, hazel dormouse, bat (all UK species), barn owl, Eurasian beaver and native crayfish.

We undertake and supervise habitat management works, including reptile fencing, pond construction and hibernacula installation where required in accordance with mitigation of planned development.

Bramley Associates also offer terrestrial, freshwater and marine plant and algal surveys to include:

  • Site surveys
  • NVC/UKHAB surveys
  • Species/site monitoring
  • Aquatic macrophyte surveys
  • Invasive non-native plant assessments
  • Writing habitat management plans
  • Habitat creation, restoration and translocation
  • Applying for licences relating to protected plant species.

We also undertake some unusual projects, such as assessments of apple and pear orchards.

We provide training in survey techniques and species identification, presenting 8 training days in 2019.

Our research

Bramley Associates maintain an active interest in research and we are currently leading four research projects in Kent:

  • Distribution of otters and otter holt usage.
  • Current distribution of Eurasian beaver in Southern England and changes in habitat structure.
  • Ecology and distribution of marine mammals, particularly seals.
  • Ecology and distribution of stoneworts.

If you do see a dead beaver in Southern England, do please contact us. We are licenced to collect beavers and these animals are sent for analysis.
